Jack-O'-Lantern

How to make a jack-o’-lantern

Jack-o’-lanterns are a fall tradition we hold on tight to as we do our turkey on Thanksgiving. And that's not about to change!

Every October, we visit one of our favorite pick-your-own pumpkin patch and choose our pumpkins fresh from the field. We look for the ones that are evenly orange and don't have any bruises, soft spots, cuts or signs of mold. You could, of course, do the opposite and pick the most unique and odd looking pumpkin to make an extra spooky jack-o’-lantern. Whichever type of pumpkin you choose, the steps to eliciting fear or amazement are always the same. And they are:

  • Cut a circle at the top.
  • Scoop out the inside.
  • Cut pattern you wish on front. This is especially easy if you print out pumpkin-carving stencils from the web.
  • Place a candle inside.
  • Enjoy your fall lantern.
PRO TIP: Save the seeds and roast them for a healthy snack!
