Candied Apples Recipe

The apple may or may not be the forbidden fruit that got Adam and Eve kicked out of heaven, but these bad boys will sure make you sin tonight. We're talking about candied apples. They may not be healthy for you, but isn't eating all the not-so-good-for-you food part of what makes the holidays special? Anyway, here's a classic recipe that you can either make together with your family and friends on an open fire or the kitchen stove.

Unsalted butter
2 cups of sugar
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup light corn syrup
6 medium apples

Line a baking sheet with buttered parchment. In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, water and corn syrup. Bring to boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium, insert a candy thermometer and continue to boil for about 10 minutes until temperature reaches between 300 and 310 degrees Fahrenheit (between 148 and 154 degrees Celsius).

Meanwhile, insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple pushing about halfway through. When the mixture reaches the desired temperature, immediately remove the saucepan from heat. Working quickly, dip apples in the sugar mixture until completely coated. Transfer the coated apples to the buttered parchment and allow them to cool.

Serve those shiny babies and enjoy them!
